Seeking Screening Space, Your New Frontier
Searching for a venue, offering art
Text
I am seeking a venue to screen a short experimental animation titled "Your New Frontier." This artwork may also be a good candidate for a curatorial team putting together a film program for the festival.
I am a US based artist and professor of media art. My work has begun to veer into data art and experimental algorithmic based processes.
About the the film (13m37s): YOUR NEW FRONTIER is an experimental animation that visualizes the scale of plastic waste exported from the United States, kilo by kilo. This data-driven imagery is layered with a soundscape composed from the same data, sonified as a slow, resonant drone, alongside cut-up audio from mid-twentieth-century corporate films that once promoted plastic with excitement and limitless potential. The title phrase, drawn from one such film, encapsulates the colonial mindset that persists today. The frontier is no longer unexplored land, but the clean water and soil of nations burdened with the remnants of American consumption.
