Seeking exhibition space for queer/immigrant art
Searching for a venue, offering art
Text
Hi! My name is Jo Birdsell. I am a queer, nonbinary artist and essayist from the American Midwest, currently living and working in Berlin.
I'm searching for a place to exhibit my work, "Sanctuary//Exile." It is a photography installation that explores historical and modern strategies of queer safety-seeking. It maps my personal immigration story, from the United States to Germany, onto a larger sociological narrative about queer community building, exploring the porous nature of borders and honoring the solidarity that exists between queer cross-cultural communities.
The work consists of both writing and photography. I am able to adapt to size constraints.
