For centuries, nightingales, skylarks and their unique songs have been subject to art and literature – much so that they are considered flagship species in today’s practices of nature conservation. But did you know that both birds can be found all over Berlin? We want to expose the urban landscapes of Neukölln to poems, stories, songs and films, scientific texts, and descriptions of birdsong. All of them about or inspired by nightingales and skylarks. But we need your help! Or rather, your voice and memories: Do you remember stories or lullabies about nightingales or skylarks from childhood? Is there a special encounter connecting you to either species? We are looking to record experiences from cultural, historical and linguistic perspectives as diverse as the people living in Neukölln. Participants will stay anonymous. This project is all about listening, individual storytelling and connecting the Neukölln community with a few of the many instances that urban nature has to offer.
